Bull Run
Project Description:
As the Lead Game Designer and Product Owner for “Bull Run,” my focus was on creating an engaging mobile game tailored to the casual gaming audience. This project was characterized by its simple yet addictive gameplay and featured various elements to enhance player enjoyment:
Casual Gameplay: “Bull Run” was designed with casual gamers in mind, offering straightforward gameplay that was easy to pick up and enjoy. The objective was to create an accessible and enjoyable gaming experience for a wide audience.
Customizable Character: Players could personalize their in-game character, allowing for a sense of ownership and uniqueness. This feature enhanced player engagement and attachment to their avatars.
Swipe Controls: The game’s controls were intuitive and responsive, with players swiping in four directions (up, down, left, or right) to navigate their character along the roadway. The simplicity of controls ensured that players could focus on the fun of the game.
Consumables: To increase the excitement and replayability, “Bull Run” introduced various consumables. These items, such as temporary slow motion, speed boosts, invulnerability, and quad bikes, added strategic depth to the gameplay and allowed players to extend their survival.
Object Collection: Players were encouraged to collect items like coins, hourglasses (to increase timer duration), magnets (to attract objects), and hoverboards (to avoid obstacles and extend safe playtime). These collectibles added an element of progression and skill mastery to the game.
Infinite Map Design: The figure-8 map design ensured that players could enjoy infinite gameplay sessions. Additionally, the changing cityscape visuals upon resurfacing added variety and aesthetic appeal to the game.
Monetization Integration: “Bull Run” incorporated monetization features through Google Pay and Apple Pay, allowing players to easily make in-game purchases for consumables and pay-to-win elements. This monetization strategy catered to players who desired these options while keeping the core gameplay enjoyable for all.
Role:
Throughout the development of "Bull Run," my role as the Lead Game Designer involved maintaining a balance between monetization and player enjoyment. I worked closely with the development team to ensure that the game's design remained accessible and fun for casual gamers while offering opportunities for in-game purchases to enhance the player experience. The result was a mobile game that entertained a broad audience and provided options for those looking to customize their gameplay further.
