Personal Game Design Projects

Zohei

Project Description:

“Zohei” was my first and solo game project. This allowed me to experienced each facet of game design first hand. The idea was to create a side-scrolling action-adventure game set in a samurai-themed world. You’d control a samurai character who had to fend off waves of enemies using swords, arrows, and special abilities. The game was meant to be played in a web browser using Adobe Flash, making it accessible to a broad audience.

I designed the levels so they would keep scrolling until you met certain kill requirements. This way, I could control the pace of the game and make it gradually more challenging as you progressed. As you moved forward, the number of enemies would increase, making it tougher. Each level would end with a boss battle, which added a nice climax and variety to the gameplay.

I also had a story behind it – the samurai was on a mission to rid his land of an evil force that had turned regular folks and even animals aggressive. To help players get into the game, I created a simple tutorial in the main menu that explained the controls and how to use abilities.

The cool part (or maybe the challenging part) was that I did everything myself – the music, sound effects, art, story, and gameplay. It was a solo project, which allowed me to showcase my skills in all aspects of game development.

The whole idea was to make it an enjoyable and engaging game that anyone could pick up and play, and I had a blast putting it all together.e
